Dragon riders

Dragon Riders are a new section of the Adelan Army. A section created by King Akkiel after his most recent trip away from the castle. Returning with a group of Dragon eggs, which later hatched into the first dragonrider dragons. These dragons lead by example, helping the dragons of the Thunderblacks see the good in humans

Dragonrider trainee’s that fail(but survive) their Meeting usually go on to train to be knights. Thought they are allowed to return each year until they give up, are killed or move on to another section of the military or are simply too old to keep returnng.

Meeting

A test of courage and humility. Children ages nine to fourteen go to the Thunderblack Mountains with a group of Knight escourts and the young children plea their case for the dragons children to be their partner. If Mommy doesn’t like the Candidate, they’re free to go unharmed. If Child doesn’t like the candidate, things sometimes turn violent. Sometimes another dragon moves to protect them, sometimes not. In a worst case scenario, the Candidate is killed, but as it is, being killed by a dragon at a Meeting holds no stigma and it is an honourable death. Better at the claws and fangs of a dragon than a dirty enemy.

The dragons are intelligent, more so than humans. They can speak vocally, though they choose their superior talents of telepathy as a normal mode of communication. It needs no psychic poweress on the humans side, though, sometimes, if the bond is strong enough and they’ve been together for a while, the humans brain learns by itself and can learn how to do simple things such as telepathy and mild telekinesis.
