Volcanic dragons are a type of quadruped, sentient dragon species, native mostly to volcanoes. They are thought to be all but extinct.

Physiology

Volcanic dragons are stout and very heavy, their scales look like large and sharp dagger blades making them a nightmare to tangle with in close combat. Their tails are oval shaped and equipped with fins to make it easier to travel through Magma streams very fast. Obviously they have a body capable of surviving prolonged contact with lava for any amount of time, they can also hold their breath for very long to travel through the long underground tunnels that the magma streams run through. Their wings can be used for flight but is mostly used to make themselves more streamlined in lava by wrapping the wings around themselves.

Temperament

Volcanic Dragons are easily angered and very vicious when angered, but if their short fuse is cared for they can be very friendly.

Diet

Volcanic dragons eat volcanic glass but they are omnivorous, as they incinerate their food and eats the ash instead.

Special Abilities:

Volcanic dragons have a innate ability to produce lava instead of fire if they wish, and no amount of heat will hurt them. Their scales are very tough and are exceptionally resilient to damage, and their claws and teeth are made up or minerals from obsidian and as such are incredibly sharp but chip and tear easily, with growth and repair occurring at phenomenal rates.

Lifespan

There are Four stages of a Volcanic Dragons life,

Drake - 0 to 10 years old The dragon develops fins and their wings to proper sizes and after the first year the dragon goes through a growth spurt until five years old and then they slow down significantly.

Dragoon - 11 to 100 years old The dragon's scales around the neck and back begin to fuse together making large spiked plates and growth speeds up just a tiny bit. it is also in this stage that the dragon becomes fertile.

Wyrm - 101 to 1000 years old The Dragon begins to develop horns and more scales fuse together to make more plates, and the dragon starts to produce natural lava from under it's scales in tiny amounts but it often cools down right away making obsidian fall of the dragon when it moves. Most Volcanic dragons pass away at this stage but some survive and proceed into the final stage of their life and in the last 10 years of this stage they go through another growth spurt almost multiplying their size several times over.

Obsidian Elder - 1000 to Unrecorded Only one known dragon has reached this stage, Thraximundar the Tyrant. At this stage the Dragon is the size of a mountain and nearly impervious to any physical attack and possess unimaginable strength and power.

Social structure

They had a Leader, Thraximundar who ruled the Volcanic dragons for more than a thousand years.

History

The volcanic dragons of today are thought to be all but extinct save for one dragon who searches for a colony to live in. The Volcanic dragons mostly vanished after the great dragon Thraximundar was slain by the other dragons because of his tyrannical hold over many other dragon species, it seemed that Thraximundar had eaten all of his kin in an attempt to give him more power to defeat the dragons that opposed him, it did not work and Thraximundar was defeated and no one saw a trace of the Volcanic dragons until now with Hari'Lah.
